Michael Stratford
Branch Chair
Michael has a wealth of knowledge of business management and uses these skills in the competitive world of charitable organisations.
He has spent the past twenty years involved in the charity sector, firstly as CEO at ‘Bluebird Community Partnership’ during this time he also volunteered with ‘Friends of Princess Royal Hospital’ and ‘4sight’.
Recently Michael has had a lead role with CTS ‘Community Transport Sussex’ involving business networking, fundraising and new initiatives.
Having lost a close friend to MND, plus relationships with three other sufferers, he understands the need for support of MND members, their carers, family and friends.
Initially an Association Visitor (AV), Chris believed it was important that an AV was on the Committee to best represent the needs of those living with MND and their carers to the Committee, in addition to providing an important channel for feedback between the Branch and those it was supporting. So in 2006, Chris joined the Committee.
Chris was a nurse for over 40 years covering general nursing, psychiatric to school nursing. She is always available to talk about the latest theatre performance she has seen or what her Grandchildren have been up to – good topics to have over a cup of tea and cake.

Christian Goldsmith

Christian’s day job is in investment management, but he joins us as Branch secretary, responsible for organising and minuting committee meetings, as well as helping to arrange Branch socials and fund-raising activities.
Christian has only recently become involved with the MND Association but is keen to contribute to Branch activities and to learn more about MND. In addition to enjoying quality time with his wife and two adult daughters, Christian’s main interests are travel, live music events, and attending live sport.
With a background in accountancy and business consultancy, Keith was welcomed in 2023 as the Branch’s choice to manage their funds and finances. He is responsible for overseeing income and expenditure, maintaining financial records and reporting to members and the National office.
Keith had been an occasional supporter of the Branch’s fundraising activities for many years, choosing to become more actively involved in recent times. In the summer months when he is not working, Keith can often be seen in the middle of a cricket field, around the county, enjoying his chosen role as a cricket umpire.

Sue Sheppard

Sue has lived in Horsham almost her entire life and has been involved with the West Sussex North Branch of the MNDA since her father was diagnosed back in 1988. During those 30-plus years, I have been on the Committee, had a family, come off the Committee, been to and helped at numerous fundraising events and helped organise a few along the way. Sue is now back on the Committee!
Sue says “I have been overwhelmed by the support from my family and friends for the events we run and, likewise the support from those of our MND families. In my lifetime, I would love to be able to see a research breakthrough which means we are one step further ahead of being free of MND!”
